PaxiSL  Buy or Evaluate

PaxiSL
The Silverlight-4 SDK for

Express Interface (Xi / OPC .NET 3.0 WCF) Client Applications.
The development of Silverlight-4 OPC client applications is greatly simplified.

PaxiSL provides a set of classes that handle the access to Express Interface (Xi / OPC .NET 3.0 WCF) servers.

PaxiSL implements an innovative endpoint management that finds and selects Silverlight accessible server endpoints.
In Xi the communication configuration is defined in the server. The clients can only select among the server configured communication endpoints. Different servers likely have different configurations and different endpoint naming. PaxiSL collects the information about the available endpoints and selects the endpoints that are suitable for communication with Silverlight and best match the application defined preferences.

Download the evaluation version for hands-on tests or study the feature details in the Online Reference Manual.

A sample Silverlight application is accessible at http://expressinterface.com/Silverlight/Demo.html
This application has a default server URL for the Internet accessible Advosol Xi Simulation server. The credentials for secure access to this server are : xi / test
The URL can be changed to access other Xi servers. However, the servers need to be configured to allow access from Silverlight applications. The requirements are explained in the PaxiSL reference manual.

PaxiSL Client Component The PaXiSL software is structured into layers.
The Proxy classes are WCF generated from the Xi Contracts and provide the WCF data exchange interface.
The next layers implement features necessary for Xi compliance.
The upper layers implement convenience features such as intelligent endpoint and list management.

How Xi Silverlight Client Applications are developed
PaxiSL is provided as a Silverlight-4 assembly.
Client applications can be developed in Visual Studio 2010 and only require a reference to PaxiSL.dll.
Express Interface server access is handled by PaxiSL classes such as XiServer and XiDataList.

PaxiSL Features

PaxiSL offer classes with methods for access to all Xi specified methods and and additional methods that simplify the server access.

PaXiSL handles the selection of the communication endpoints in a flexible way, based on the limited Silverlight communication capabilities.
The application sets preference declarations and PaxiSL selects the best fitting endpoint available in the server:

  • Endpoint Name
The endpoint with this name is used if it exists in the server configuration
  • Security yes/no
Determines is a secure or non-secure endpoint is selected in case the server has endpoints configured with both kinds of bindings.

Classic OPC server access from Silverlight applications

DCOM based OPC server access is not directly possible from Silverlight applications.
The Express Interface is the solution - it uses WCF communication. Classic OPC servers are accessed through an Xi converter server. Such converters will be provided with classic OPC servers and are available from the OPC Foundation (for members) and from Advosol.

PaxiSL and XiTOCO offer a good solution, using WCF communication instead of DCOM.

PaxiSL with XiTOCO Classic OPC Converter

The XiTOCO converter server is installed on the same machine as the Classic OPC servers. The communication from the .NET Compact Framework application uses WCF, eliminating the need for DCOM support in Silverlight.

PaxiSL and XiTOCO are available as royalty free licenses, making the solution cost effective for low and high volume applications.

.NET applications can access OPC AE server through a set of conveniant classes and methods. The EventView control handles a wide range of OPC Alarms&Events viewing requirements. OPC Alarms&Events .NET clients can be created without writing code and without knowledge of the OCP AE specification.
